An hour of digital recording can take between 3-7 hours to transcribe, depending on the number of speakers and quality of the recording. To improve the quality of your recordings and keep the billable rate as low as possible, follow these simple tips:
- Minimise background noise - Switch off noisy appliances such as radios, TVs, air conditioners etc and try to never record in busy places like trains, cafes and places where other people are talking in the background.
- Use quality digital recording equipment and familiarise yourself with your device and all its settings.
- Place the microphone as close as possible to the speakers.
- Clearly repeat or – even better – spell the names of people, places and acronyms.
- Before starting your recording, run a sound check to ensure the recording is clear.
